Initially, the whole decor was centered around a bonfire—complete with wedding favor s'more mix and baby trees.”

“The minister was our dear friend, Eric Barnes, who became ordained so he could marry us. We picked Eric to be our minister because he knew us best as a couple. The three of us formed a strong friendship over countless nights of drinks and Rock Band. We know that we will always be close with Barnes, and choosing someone that will be an important part of our lives forever played a huge role.”

“The single-most-important facet of our wedding day was to focus on our family and friends. This was not only a celebration for us, but a celebration for them. We wanted to honor those closest to us for being there for us. We wanted them to know … how important and influential they are in our lives.”
-Jennalee Whiting

ADAHEID MESTAD & NICK LENSING
August 20, 2011
ceremony: history center of Olmsted county
Reception: Peace Plaza

Bride’s Dress: Mestads Bridal and Formal Wear
Bridesmaid Dresses: Mestads Bridal and Formal Wear
Groom’s Attire: Mestads Bridal and Formal Wear
Catering: canadian honker/Rochester event center
DJ: dJ slipp (Jordan Van hook)
Bands: county Road 3, and surprise band six Mile grove after their Americana showcase
Photographer: Olive Juice studios
Decorative floral: Le Jardin
Bouquets and boutonnieres: heather Ritenour sampson
Wedding coordinator: Above and Beyond (Naura Anderson)

“We didn’t have a particular theme, but more of a feel. However, we did refer to it as an ‘interactive bohemian chic feel.’”

“Our goal was that the feel, look, and activities of the day would all be a reflection of us—either as individuals or as a couple.”

“Nick is an ice sculptor, so instead of a traditional cake, we had an ice cake that he cut with a chainsaw during our reception!”

“We wanted to do things at our wedding that we would actually use after that day. So, for instance, instead of having a guest book, we had our guests paint on canvases for us.”

“[Johnny Cash guitarist] Bob Wootton was a surprise guest—thank you to our friend Brandon Sampson and the Americana Showcase!”
— Adaheid Mestad

JADE & BRETT GRABAU
august 27, 2011
Ceremony/reception: Groom’s Parents’ Yard in Preston, Minn.

Bride’s Dress: Charlotte’s Bridal, LaCrosse, Wis.
Bridesmaid Dresses: david’s Bridal, richfield, Minn.
Groom’s Attire: Knights Chamber
Catering: Pedal Pushers Café, Lanesboro
Cupcakes: Mon Petite Cupcakes, Winona
Cookies: Sweet Stop Sandwich Shoppe, Preston, Minn.
Music: Shalo Lee & the rush river Band
Photographer: Olive Juice Studios
Flowers: everyday Bouquets
Day of Coordinator: Kirsten from Fab.You.Lous event designs
Hair & Make-up: Erin topness, Lanesboro
Invitation and Programs: action Graphic design
Photo booth: traveling Photo Booth, Minneapolis

“We wanted a simple ceremony focused on the vows, homily, and readings. We skipped the church music and played contemporary music—Zach Brown Band, Billy Joel, Beach Boys—while our guests sat themselves and as our wedding party walked down the aisle.”

“A bird flew over our wedding party as Pastor Wade Davick talked about the beautiful setting for a wedding. We did have few sprinkles during the ceremony; a rainbow appeared before the speeches started. (Crazy, I know!)”

“Brett and I are U of M Gopher Fans—and I wanted to surprise my groom and guests with an appearance by University of Minnesota mascot, Goldy. During the first band break, we played the U of M Rouser and Goldy Gopher came out to the dance floor. It was hilarious to see the surprised looks on my parents’ and husband’s faces.“
— Jade Grabau

MARSHA & JEREMY GLEASON
June 4, 2011
Ceremony: Dover United Methodist Church
reception: Dover Fire hall

Bride’s Dress: White rose Bridal, st. It’s also where my parents held their wedding reception over 30 years ago!”

“I went with jade as our main color, but I wanted to incorporate hot pink as well. I always liked the idea of brightly colored shoes, so the bridesmaids wore pink dress shoes for the ceremony and I wore jade shoes. At the dance we had flip flops in the same colors.”

“I tried on many veils but couldn’t find a particular one that I liked. I then had an idea to wear my mom’s wedding veil. We replaced the comb on it and added beading at the bottom. It turned out great!”

“Instead of place cards at the head table, we used cutout cookies in the shape of a wedding cake that had our names written on them. My godmother made all the cookies, including those we used as favors on the guest tables.”
— Marsha Gleason
