The journal’s impact factor remains highest among palliative care journals (2.423). đŏ PC-FACS —Frequently given the highest ratings on AAHPM membership surveys, PC-FACS celebrated its 100th issue this year. The electronic newsletter offers members quick summaries of key findings from more than 60 medical and scientific journals. t The Academy’s popular member news-letter, AAHPM Quarterly (formerly AAHPM Bulletin ), was redesigned this year, featuring the same content with a more contemporary look. AAHPM surveyed the membership and used reader comments—many of which highlighted a desire for quick, practical articles on AAHPM and the field—to direct the mission statement review and content of the newsletter going forward. The popular re-view course quickly sold out, leading the Academy to create both a recorded product and webinars for those who were unable to attend the course. Throughout 2010 and 2011 the AAHPM Medical Director Education Committee targeted the needs of its members who serve in that role, recommending an array of new programs. Highlights include<br /> <br /> developing core competencies for hospice physicians and revising the popular Hospice Medical Director Manual, 2nd edition, to reflect best practices in the field<br /> <br /> moving forward with the development of a hospice medical director’s certification program, following a 3-year review of its potential value.<br /> <br /> The Academy is excited to develop these programs, which have the potential to improve the quality and consistency of practice within hospice and palliative medicine— in particular, addressing the regulatory, administrative, and leadership skills this position requires.<br /> <br /> 2011 AAHPM & HPNA Annual Assembly<br /> The 2,000 physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals who attended the Academy’s Annual Assembly in Vancouver, BC, Canada, had access to an expanded educational schedule and international networking opportunities.<br /> <br /> More than 170 educational sessions offered the latest evidence-based research and innovative approaches to hospice and palliative care.<br /> <br /> Partnerships with the British Columbia Hospice Palliative Care Association and the Canadian Society of Palliative Care Physician offered a richer discussion of palliative care in Canada.<br /> <br /> Three sets of office hours were offered for one-on-one consultation regarding research, billing and coding, and abstract writing.<br /> <br /> Nearly 60% of attendees indicated that they had plans to create or revise protocols, policies, and/or procedures as a result of attending the Assembly.<br /> <br /> Publication List Using a screen reader?
