PSYCHIC MEDIUM LYNN DARMON
Some people are born with a gift of gab; others, the ability to pull off a great party with little advance planning. But, like spunky Long Island Medium Theresa Caputo on TLC, Lynn Darmon says she was born with an unusual gift: receiving messages from people who have passed.

“The impact these messages have on my clients is incredible,” says Lynn. “A woman’s son came through one day. He had drowned a few days after getting engaged but they were never able to retrieve his body. His mother spent a fortune on divers and to have the lake raked. But he provided so many clear details with the wish that his mom stop searching; telling her that he was fine and well on the other side with his father that it was the closure she needed to give up the search.”

Lynn, who along with Caputo was featured on ABC’s 20/20 last October, says Mediums are a connection to the other side of the “veil”, the barrier between the living and the dead. Lynn says we are made of energy, which doesn’t go away when we die. Instead, it continues at a much higher vibration, or frequency. To make contact, Mediums raise their frequency while loved ones who have passed lower theirs.

Lynn says she also receives messages from the client’s Spirit Guides, not just their loved ones. “A client came by last week just to tell me that a reading I had done for her over the summer in which the Spirit Guides ‘showed’ me a mass in her left breast turned out to be true after I encouraged her to go to the doctor. She had a successful surgery removing it.”

Lynn also reports that a woman’s Spirit Guides came through during a reading with information about her biological family; the client had been adopted at birth. “Through her reading, I was able to successfully reunite her with her brother whom she’d been separated from for over 30 years. He was in Greece and last I heard she had scheduled a trip to finally meet him.”

Sometimes messages won’t make sense to her but will make sense to her clients. “The spirits will persist until the client gets it. They also show me things I can relate to so I can better understand their message.” If she “sees” her art school daughter, for instance, then she assumes the client knows someone who is in art school. The Guides are also very specific. “If there is something they don’t want me to see because it’s too painful, a curtain comes down. Spirit Guides are very protective.”

HOW IT STARTED
When Lynn was five-years-old, she woke up one morning with a strong feeling that her grandfather, who lived in France, had passed away during the night. “I told my mom but she didn’t believe me. An hour later, we received a telegram that he had passed.”

After that, she continued to have feelings about events that turned out to be true, but mostly focused on things that happened within her family. It wasn’t until she was in college, studying psychology at the University of Michigan, that her gift started to get “louder and bigger.” She was getting messages from her Spirit Guides wherever she went, whether it was the grocery store or the bank. She started reading and learning on her own, developing her gift, figuring out what the symbols – roses, candles and hands, to name just a few – meant and different ways that spirits communicate. Eventually, she spent two years working at a holistic wellness center helping others develop their spirituality before branching out as a full-time Medium. Today, she conducts phone readings with clients in other parts of the world, including Germany and the UK; as well as in-person readings in her Southfield office.

How does Lynn handle the inevitable skeptics? Lynn says she’s not out to prove them wrong. “We need them. We are all on a spiritual path and skeptics are on their own journey. They provide balance.”

Tuning into spirits doesn’t scare her, either. “It feels very natural and there is so much love present, it sometimes brings me to tears. You don’t always get what you want in a reading, but you always get what you need.”
