I am a new business producer for commercial/business prod- ucts exclusively. I assist business owners and professionals manage the risks associated with running their businesses. I work closely with local businesses including manufacturers, machine shops, building owners, restaurants, auto shops, etc., and specialize in contractors and construction risk. What has been the biggest struggle you have faced as a woman in business? I think the biggest struggle any woman in business faces is learning to make decisions without our heart getting in the way. Some of the most difficult and painful decisions end up being the best business decisions. How do you think women have changed the world of business in the last 10 to 20 years? Dare I say? We’ve made it look good! Men and women make decisions differently. I think that women have added not only flair, but we’ve brought an entirely new perspective and a great deal of heart to the world of business. Who are your role models? Philanthropic people and volunteers who pay it forward and give back. Time is as precious a commodity as money. Those who give either have my vote and are my heroes. www.scinsure.com 330-963-3800 The Lindsay Collection Lindsay Jean-Marie, Fashion/Wearable Art Designer What is your main role within your particular business? After graduating from The University of Akron with a degree in Fashion Merchandising. I developed a unique passion for knitting and crocheting. I immediately started to develop one of a kind outerwear patterns for women. I personally hand knit and crochet, sweaters, hats, purses, and shawls for women all over the world. What has been your biggest success in the business world? I work hard all year round to open a temporary retail store for the holiday season. This holiday season I will be in Summit Mall. My work is also represented at 23 specialty store throughout the United States, including stores in Arizona, California, Washington, Wisconsin and Chicago. Who are your role models? I have two role models. My mother and my grandmother are the most amazing women in my life. They both taught me how to be unique and think outside the box. They didn’t want me to be like everyone else. They believed in me as a designer and encouraged me to never stop learning. They taught me to be an independent woman and remind me every day that confidence goes a long way in life. And even though I choose a difficult industry to get into, they taught me to never give up my dreams. To see Lindsay Jean-Marie at New York City Fashion Week is my main dream, and I think I am getting closer to that dream every day. www.lindsayjeanmarie.com 330-608-7159 December 2009 Akron Life & Leisure 87 Publication List |
